4 weekS of Practice & Projects

Welcome to this 4 week opportunity to stay connected to your musical self! Scroll down to see Weeks I-IV. Each week has different activities for you. The warm ups and personal song practice mimics what we do in our lessons each week. The partner project is new. Pick and choose what you like and leave the rest! Note the links for songwriting, chord fingering charts and Guitar Tabs (chords for your favorite songs).

The purpose of this is to have fun musically, NOT to stress you out! If at any time you have questions, please email me at tiger@tigerzane.com.

WEEK I

Practice exercises 1 & 2 (recording link below)

Exercise 1/ The Diatonic Scale with spaces - Hum or 'oo' along to this Vaccai, taking breaths whenever needed. Keep it
     smooth and relaxed.

Exercise 2/ The Diatonic Scale (Soprano) - This is the same melody but without any spaces. Get to know this well enough
that you can hum or "oo" it from memory. Your goal is for it to feel easy, and supported from the pelvis (not the throat).

❋ PERSONAL SONG: Sing your personal song - if you have any trouble keeping your throat relaxed, try humming it,
whistling it or singing it very softly. When you're done, make a quick video or audio recording singing the whole song and
send it to Tiger's email. Don't watch it or listen to it-- we are too judgemental of ourselves and that is not the point! You'll
do another one in 4 weeks to see how you've progressed. Don't worry about it being perfect!

❋ PARTNER PROJECT: Schedule a 15 minute Zoom meeting with your Project Partner. During this meeting...

     1. Say hi, meet each other, share musical interests and tastes (Hint: find something you have in common)

     2. Choose a project to co-create like: Sing a Duet, Co-write an Original Song, Play the instrument for your
partner's song etc. This doesn't have to be fancy or ambitious! The point is to meet someone new and collaborate. Try
and be openminded because I know it' can feel uncomfortable to meet new people sometimes-- especially on Zoom!
     3. Make a 15-30 minute Zoom appointment for next week.

WEEK II

Practice exercises 1 & 2 (recording link below)

Exercise 1/ Ascending Scale to the Third with spaces - Hum or 'oo' softly along to this 3 note scale making sure to take a
     breath whenever needed.

Exercise 2/ Vaccai - Intervals of the Third (Soprano) - We've done this one before so practice keeping your voice smooth
and easy as you hum along to this.

❋  PERSONAL SONG: Sing your personal song 1-2 times. Are there any parts that felt tight or rough in the throat ? If yes,
practice those sections until they feel  easier. Try your song with the karaoke version.

❋  PARTNER PROJECT: Week 2 - By the end of this week's meeting you should...

     1. Decide on what your project/song is and who is going to do what!

     2. During the week, send each other recordings of your parts  so your partner can listen and add figure out their
part. For example, if you are working on a song performance together, you can record an (phone or tablet) audio recording
of you singing or playing your part. Then send it to your partner so they can practice their part with you. If you are writing a
song,  divide the verses and choruses and then send each other ideas. Use your imagination! There is no set way to do any
     of this!

     3. Make a 15-30 minute Zoom appointment for next week.

WEEK III

Practice exercises 1 & 2 (recording link below)

Exercise 1/ Fourths with Descending 4 note scale - Focus on your pelvis for the first part of the pattern, humming the jump
up to the fourth so it is smooth and easy; then connect the notes of the scale as you come back down. If the humming
feels easy, change it up and try on an 'oo' or 'loo'. Try not to push into the notes. Instead, let them start inside your head
and then gently let the sound out.

Exercise 2/ Vaccai - Intervals of the Fourth - Listen to the recording several times and then hum along quietly until you
know the melody. Watch out for tricky jumps! The goal is to keep it easy and relaxed in your throat while being accurate.

❋ PERSONAL SONG: Sing your song once just to warm up. Sing along with the original recording to make sure you have
all the notes and timing correct. Enjoy yourself... move your body and feel the rhythm of the song-- remember why you
love this song! If you are playing an instrument too, play just the instrumental part and then practice singing along.

❋  PARTNER PROJECT: By the end of this week's meeting you should...

     1. Each spend some time working out your half of the project.

     2. Keep sharing your progress and ideas with each other.

     3. Decide how to share your project (recording, original song lyrics with chords in a pdf, video etc.). You might have to use
some creativity to work around the technical issues of Zoom, recording and synchronizing.

     4. Make a 15-30 minute Zoom appointment for next week.

WEEK IV

Practice exercises 1 & 2 (recording link below)

Exercise 1/ Ascending and Descending triads to the Fifth - Hum the intervals keeping the notes, soft connected and
     supported by the pelvis.

Exercise 2/ Vaccai - Intervals of the Fifth (Soprano) - Listen to the melody several times until it is familiar. Then hum along
or use the vowel, 'oo'. Take breaths whenever you need them.

❋  PERSONAL SONG: Sing your personal song - if you have any trouble keeping your throat relaxed, try humming it,
whistling it or singing it very softly. Think about what the emotional message and feeling of this song is. Are you expressing
that as you sing? If not, try speaking the lyrics out loud as if you were acting the part out. What do you feel? this is the
emotion you can express while singing too.

❋  PARTNER PROJECT: By the end of this week's meeting you should...

     1. Have your project ready to "perform" in some way. Clean up loose ends. remember it doesn't have to be perfect!

     2. Figure out a way to share with Tiger-- video, recording, something written etc. Parents also love to hear this kind of
     thing:)

     3. Can't wait to see and hear how you've been doing!
